Why is a parkway called a parkway if you actually don't run around in grass and swing on swings?

Aw, what the heck. Nothing's happened here for months.
I was playing Croc 2 earlier today...and I went to the Inca village. I replayed a few of the levels, and decided to play the Jigsaw level, because I remember it being kind of hard.
It was 'kind of' hard- I've never been good with mazes -but after awhile I decided that this particular level seems very...off? Creepy? I mean, you're running through the walled-in village like maze, no enemies, no gobbos, nobody...no way to hurt yourself, either.
Plus how some walls look brighter than others, like the sun is shining on them. It's unnerving, man.
All the doors and shaded windows and statues and fruit stands...It feels very schizoid to me. Anyone else?
(Coupled with that weird, weird music...'tis a strange level, indeed.)

Lol because all the good stuff is happening over at my forum We've also got a bunch of new and really friendly cool members over there too such as Crash, he's an awesome guy. That and we managed to rip all the backgrounds, sounds and maps and what not and are nearly done hacking the map formats so modding isn't too far off in the horizon... ANWAYs instead of hijacking this thread I'll reply. Yeah that maze always seemed a little weird in comparison to the rest of the game and the lack of danger always made me wondering what was just around the bend :/

For some reason, people seem more willing to discuss hacking and ripping than any other aspects of a wonderful game. Doesn't make this forum any less special I would be interested in the backgrounds (as I'm sure you know). That level...I never 'lost' because I got killed or anything, but I always 'lost' because I got so frustrated with the maze I just gave up.

Actually I don't know if you noticed but there is only 1 thread for hacking discussion, the rest is to talk about whatever you please with Croc. Also in the Croc 3 section (I need to rename it) you can discuss and add suggestions to the remake of Croc one.

I'm sorry if I'm coming off as rude. I'm just sad that this forum is pretty much left for dead because people would rather be on a forum that was created so that they could openly discuss hacking. I mean, hacking is one of your forum's main points, even if it's just a small portion. I offer no negative wishes, and I still am interested in the progress you make. I've decided Forte was right. Ripping a game up like that destroys the magic. In other words, I'll be cheering from the sidelines I wonder if Forte's even okay with us talking about your forum on hers... What do you think, Forte? EDIT- Now that I think of it, why do you need suggestions for "Croc 3" if it's a remake of "Croc 1"?

EDIT- Now that I think of it, why do you need suggestions for "Croc 3" if it's a remake of "Croc 1"? Actually the biggest thread is in the Croc Remake forum, it has four pages and is for public suggestions and musings. The board with the most posts and threads is the remake board. The hacking part is only for those with an interest in it, especially those who wanted, eg; backgrounds or sound-effects from the game for whatever media endeavors they had. And the reason that forum exists is because I got dozens of emails and messages in other places, even random be-friendings and addings on MSN and facebook and such, regarding the fact they couldn't sign up to this forum here because Forte wasn't activating their accounts and they were fed up of waiting (which is totally understandable.) It doesn't exist solely for hacking reasons, that moved over there because I understood that Forte was not happy with Andre and I discussing it openly on her forum. Despite my valid arguments. Also I have not once said here or there that no one is allowed to go here because it sucks or whatever (not that you have implied that I have said this) Besides mentioning that Forte doesn't seem to check the new registrations which is the real issue of this forum. As for Forte liking the discussion, that is not relevant, she may have made this forum and moderates it, but that doesnt remove our freedom of speech so long as we are not discussing illegal things. Oh and on your EDIT, I think I already mentioned that the plan changed from Croc 3 to a remake, though we still want to do a new game, we think we should get a new version of the first game a breath of new life (and help eradicate crashes and bugs that make it hard or impossible to play the game) I'm sending you a special PM Tyguy, please read it. And on a final note I am not attacking anyone, nor trying to cause trouble, just trying to explain my position.

Yeah Andre and I never wanted to compete against this forum, we tried to get Forte to atleast allow us to activate new members or to turn off the admin activation but we were ignored and thought it best to just make a new forum where you could discuss anything (except illegally obtaining the games) without being scrutinized by the admin team.

Really? This is actually the first I've heard about it. You've never contacted me about it, and I've never had any communication with Andre whatsoever. As for the rest, I think that a response to your previous post is warranted, if I may. And the reason that forum exists is because I got dozens of emails and messages in other places, even random be-friendings and addings on MSN and facebook and such, regarding the fact they couldn't sign up to this forum here because Forte wasn't activating their accounts and they were fed up of waiting (which is totally understandable.) I do find it odd that people have allegedly contacted a random member of the forum, instead of its owner, whose e-mail address is available on the forum's associated website. I find it odder that you never thought to mention it before now. I wasn't actually aware of this affecting more than a couple of accounts. I never set the forum up this way. It does explain why that ban-dodging fellow suddenly never came back again, though! To my knowledge nobody ever said that your arguments were invalid. I certainly hope that you don't believe that mine, which are equally as valid as yours, are invalid, just because you don't agree with them. If it's such an issue, why did you never let me know that people were contacting you, instead of me, about my forum? Anyway, that is terribly odd. As previously stated, I had thought that this was randomly affecting only a few accounts. It's a shame that nobody actually let me know. I think you'll find that "freedom of speech" doesn't apply to privately-hosted internet forums. I only ever politely asked that you did not discuss something here which I have always felt offers zero value on a small forum that was created for chatting about a couple of old video games. I am grateful that you respected that wish, but I would courteously ask that you please don't try to drag it all up again as you appear to be doing here. I'm honestly not sure what's caused you to bring it up at all - I can't see any relation to the Inca Gobbos in it, to be honest. I think, regarding legality, that you may want to make sure that tearing these games to bits doesn't violate any laws. I gather that in some countries, it actually might. However, I'm no legal expert. It's down to those who engage in that. I should hope not. I really don't see why you felt the need to "explain your position" by de-railing a topic that had nothing to do with it. On my own final note, as you might imagine, I don't do foruming and much of anything Croc-related anymore, short of getting to play a little bit of the games every once in a while. I just don't have the time for it.

Sorry about the lack of quoting I'm about to do but the quote post feature doesn't seem to want to copy all the information from your post :/ I vaguely remember Andre saying he was contacted by someone who wished to join the forum and I told him that a few had asked me too, he then said he would PM you about it, wether he did or not, or if the PM got lost in the internet (entirely possible) I can't be sure, sorry if that has caused some problems. I don't think they picked me at random, I created a ModdingDB profile for Croc 1 and posted atleast a dozen "do you remember this game?" topics on a couple of other forums I was visiting a little while back, obviously some people saw those and found this forum wanting to join, but when they couldn't they went straight back to me (because I have my MSN and email accounts visible on forum profiles, and I usually tell people to call me by my real name.) I recall there being only a small handful, maybe half a dozen to ten or so people who contacted me specifically. I wasn't implying that anyone said my arguments were invalid, I was trying to say that I gave up very good points based on information I had on hand at the time and that you were being a little too strict in my opinion. (Which is what it is, my opinion alone.) Like I mentioned above, I had wrongly assumed you had recieved a message about this. If it doesn't then it should. That is how I run my forums, just because I may not like something does not mean that I will ask people to not discuss it (unless it is of course illegal) this is something that we should be able to observe in all areas we are in, the internet, workforce and everyday social life. We didn't evolve the way we have to strip each other of rights on a digital forum. Yes that was part of the reason Andre and I made the other forum to take our discussion elsewhere, we were going to share the results we came up with such as the much asked for backgrounds and sound-effects with everyone here but it seemed almsot everyone but you and Tyguy moved over there. I didn't mean to drag it up, it came out like this when i was explaining to Tyguy why it was so dead here, which is entirely my fault because all the action is happening on the other forum. And of course none of this really has much to do with the Inca tribe As for legality, where I live it is entirely legal to do as you wish with a legally obtained copy of a video game (including hacking, modding, and so on) as long as we don't illegally supply a download of it online or sell copies of it ourselves (except for the original and even then it has to be done through legal channels) Because of this, it is legal for people to perform this actions and discuss them on my forum as long as I moderate it and make sure what is posted doesn't breach the law. I also mentioned that a few dev's were disgusted with me hacking the game, however these few (when we asked other team members) were apparently the less sharing and caring part of the team, everyone else was delighted we existed, including Jez who currently holds the rights. Finally, I believe if this is the case for you, it might be best to elect a moderator or admin to work while you are gone...

Sorry about the lack of quoting I'm about to do but the quote post feature doesn't seem to want to copy all the information from your post :/ Not a problem. That's quite different to " Yeah Andre and I never wanted to compete against this forum, we tried to get Forte to atleast allow us to activate new members or to turn off the admin activation but we were ignored and thought it best to just make a new forum where you could discuss anything (except illegally obtaining the games) without being scrutinized by the admin team.". Your wording suggested that you had both contacted me and had been ignored, and now you're saying something completely different now that I have pointed out that you did not contact me. If I receive mistaken communications, personally I was taught that it's best to forward them to who they were actually meant for, or at least direct those trying to make contact to the correct person - it's the courteous thing to do, I think. I don't fully understand why people who saw postings about remembering an old video game would go to/find an unrelated place, but then go back to the person asking if they remembered the video game if they had difficulties with said place. It would surely be more logical to contact the owner, rather than to contact somebody who was asking if people remembered an old video game - at least, that's what seems logical to me. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding your wording, though, in which case disregard that. As for "random", the context of that was meant to be read in the vein of "a random individual who isn't the forum's owner". My apologies if this wording wasn't clear enough. Again, nobody ever said that you didn't give good points. I will say again that I hope that you don't believe that my good points are invalid just because you disagree with them. We had this discussion in 2009, and you claimed to respect my opinion. Your recent spate of postings are beginning to cause my view on this claim to change. But you said " we tried to get Forte to atleast allow us to activate new members or to turn off the admin activation but we were ignored". If you outright say that you contacted somebody, you're generally supposed to know for certain that you contacted them. In 2009, I politely asked you not to discuss something that was outside of what this forum was created for (and which I am fairly sure is not kosher in the jurisdictions that cover its hosting and the country of its founder). You seemed to take umbrage at it to the point of seemingly deliberately misunderstanding my words, and even after I explained my position you still kept posting it for a while. Out of courtesy to you, I took no action on it, figuring that you would understand what I had said after taking some time to take in my explanation, and after it went quiet on that front, I thought that that was that. Here we are now in 2011, and it seems that I was wrong in thinking that this was the case. Why are you suddenly now, so much time later, posting all this irrelevant loaded language about "freedom of speech" and "stripping of rights"*, and so on? Whilst I'm sure that it's not what you're actually doing, it sort of ends up coming off looking almost like you're trying to paint me as some sort of a bad-guy, or trying to create some sort of fictional and impossible "us versus them" situation regarding my forum and yours. (And to be honest, I didn't even know until you started with this that you even had a forum. ) *I feel that I ought point out to you that these rules that you appear to think exist, to my knowledge do not apply to privately-hosted services on the internet, and, indeed, are not even law in some real-world places (for example, some places, like Australia, are well-known for internet censorship). I know they're a popular myth with young'uns from some countries, but just because a myth is widespread does not mean that it's accurate. If it did, the moon would be a bunny made of cheese. If you didn't mean to drag it up, then why bring it up in the manner that you did at all? If, as you've stated, you weren't looking to appear as though you were seeking trouble or trying to attack things and/or people, a better approach may have been to simply say that your own forum is rather more lively and to invite Tyguy to check it out, rather than some of the things you ended up saying. I'm no legal expert, and I'm not from the same country as you, but from my understanding of it, I think that your definition there may be a bit too broad. You're Australian, right? You may want to double-check your country's "Copyright Amendment Act 2006" (I believe that's its name), just to be safe. You may also want to check the laws of the country or countries hosting the servers for your forum, too, for the same reason. Please don't get yourself into trouble in the pursuit of something you enjoy - that wouldn't be cool. Indeed, though I saw no reason to point it out back in 2009, as I had assumed it would be obvious, I'm fairly sure that some key elements of that sort of stuff (such as breaking DRM, or distributing hacks that include big chunks of the original code) are not permissible in my country, and I suspect that the same applies to the one in which my forum is hosted also. It is something that I have no desire to deal with, which is another reason I never wanted the subject raised here. (This is, of course, in addition to the fact that this place was created to be about what "was" - not what "wasn't". ) Just because you disagree with their view doesn't make them "less caring and sharing". Ah, but what's the point? As you yourself said " it seemed almsot everyone but you and Tyguy moved over there". I didn't even know until you started off with this that you even had a forum. (As an aside, I won't be attending, I'm afraid. As stated previously, I don't have the time anymore, like I did when I started this place back in 2004.) Anyway, I wish you the best of luck - and please stay out of trouble with the hacking and modding and such, but do have fun.

I also mentioned that a few dev's were disgusted with me hacking the game, however these few (when we asked other team members) were apparently the less sharing and caring part of the team [...] I'm sorry Rex, but I think that's unfair. It sounds like they care passionately about Croc and don't feel like the fans will give him the respect he deserves. However, they are not able to stop you from hacking, so they just express their anxiety and worry to you in hopes you'll understand what they mean. It doesn't appear that you do. In fact, I think I can relate to how they're feeling. They like to be in control, at least a little, and supervise so they can make sure that everything goes right. But when you just kind of took this assertive "Hey! We're hacking your pride and joy! Care to help us?" mentality, they felt helpless and terrified and anxious. I'd think of them as possibly the more caring and sharing part of the group- if they weren't caring, why would they be disgusted with you hacking Croc? They view Croc as something they created. Croc is, quite possibly, their masterpiece and their baby at the same time. And you could be taking that masterpiece apart and repainting it according to your own whims. Of course they don't want that to happen! They don't know who you are, and they are distressed because they have no control over what you decide to do. Croc could be a very close and personal part of them- and it may be selfish, but they don't want anyone touching it. It's certainly not justified for you to make such judgments.

I dont have the emails on me atm, my friend does, he's the one who contacted them (I thought it better to have at most, 1 guy do it, especially since he has contact with a lot of devs from the 90s.) But the gist of the reply of the two members was, They were shocked (shocked, not surprised) that there were people still playing Croc, however they felt that Croc doesn't need hackers or modders (expressing this with a lot of emphasis) and they wanted us to stop. They didn't ask, they told us to. Especially since it is irrelevant to today's industry (which upset me) and when prompted about material they may have left over, they replied that if thye do have it, they wouldn't hand it out, no more explanation than "no, I won't" which was fine by us, we understood that some dev's may not give up anything if thye had it, we never intended to go around and get dev's to spend their time ransacking their garages and basements to dig up all this stuff, it was just lucky that some of them were already considering digging through it all in the first place.
