Though I would love to be proven wrong, I don't believe that Croc will be back, unfortunately. There are just too many people who cannot grasp how important arcade-style gameplay (which is what is, ultimately, at Croc's core, in my view) is. As for e-mailing Argonaut, good luck with that - they ceased to exist in 2004.

I don't believe that Croc will return either. Argonaut's fate is unfortunate, but there's nothing to do about it, and I can't imagine that any current games studio is interested in resurrecting the franchise. I'm pretty sure we just need to face that the series is over. On one hand, it would be amazing to play a brand new Croc game, but on the other hand, do we really want a new Croc game? If handled wrong, it could turn out to be a massive disappointment, and worse yet, a really horrible game. I say let's think about the two Croc games as great memories that we can look back on and wish that newer games will be as good as those.

Why is a parkway called a parkway if you actually don't run around in grass and swing on swings?

It's always been my dream to go to college for video game design, and then bring back Croc. If there's anyone I would trust with handling Croc right, it's me. Yeah, I like the older games a lot, too. Croc 1 was my favorite, so on the slight chance I do make Croc 3 it'll be more of a homage to the original.

The best games that have ever existed weren't made by people with degrees about "game design" - they were made by folks who understood human nature, had passion and new ideas, and "got" what was fun, who actually had completely unrelated degrees and whatnot. Personally, I don't believe that "game design" can be taught - only formulas. And you can see what formulas have done by looking at how most of the games market is fast disappearing. (P.S.: I would recommend giving this a read. See what you think. ) EDIT: Read this one, too. Hell, read the whole site - there's a lot of good reading there.

You're right, Forte. Some pretty interesting stuff. I guess I agree, except if I didn't take classes, how would I know how to create the game? If I couldn't walk, I couldn't run a marathon. I guess what I'm saying is where can I learn??

I guess what I'm saying is where can I learn?? Learn by doing, of course. [wavy lines to indicate a flashback] Back when I was younger, computers were programmable out-of-the-box and often came with guides to do so. More's the pity that this isn't the case with certain OSes now. [/wavy lines to indicate a flashback] More seriously, I often see folks recommending Python and Pygame as decent starting points for this sort of thing. Though I just as often see folks recommending learning C and C++, admittedly. There are plenty of free resources out there on the internet for all of them.

I actually want to join the games industry myself and am learning C++ Another old game that was released the same time as Croc was (or there abouts) is Carnivores, created by Action Forms, also a group very similar to Argonaut was, infact Action Forms has only 5 games in total and have been around since 1995. They've always made very fun games and not the usual kind you see pumped out of America and Japan (these guys are Ukrainians) Carnivores, like Croc, is an arcade styled game, you pick a weapon, choose a dinosaur, a map and accessories then go and hunt you game down, (or become hunted yourself) Carnivores has survived the years with a fan community only slighty larger than this one, and we didn't have the source code or anything until 2008. We survived soley with chitter chatter about the game and very very vague attempts at making modding tools. Nowadays, games like Croc are lost to time because of the modern market, my 8 year old brother plays Call of Duty instead of games like Croc, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, etc etc... The old days are long gone, all we can do is remember them and thank them for all the joy they brought our generations and still bring our generations. I've already said before, the only way we could possibly bring Croc back are mods for Croc 1 or 2 (either one would suit fine, Croc 1 mods would be a lot easier though) either that or if the ex-owner of Argonaut, or leader or whatever... Jez I believe his name is, gave us, or Wily the source-code to Croc or any information on the game files so new changes could be made. I know a lot of you are thinking "NO Croc can't change or it won't be Croc anymore!" I understand what you feel, I felt quite a bit the same back when I was rediscovering all my childhood video games myself, though take a look at the Carnivores Mod that has me and a friend adding brand new stuff into the game: z3.invisionfree.com/The_Carnivores_Saga/index.php?showtopic=1335The game is still what it used to be, but with many many brand new and exciting features, we've fixed bugs and are continuously improving the game overall, Tyler and I pride ourselves on keeping the game the Carnivores we all grew up loving all those years ago, while also bring something brand new and fresh to the games. Croc could go the same way if the Source-code could be acquired somehow, and I'm not saying I should or will do anything with the source-code since A) Wily is the admin and our leader here, B ) I already have too much to do C) I don't want to cause you guys to panic.

Sounds cool, but I'm not sure what source code is... How did you learn all of this?? I feel like such a hermit... I know next to nothing about code, or modding. I'm trying to teach myself, but everyone seems like experts compared to me! How did you all learn?! Anyway, you've been gone for quite a while. Welcome back. Have you had any luck answering the fan pleas for the backgrounds? Give Tyler my tops. Tyler is quite an amazing name, if I do say so myself.

I joined a forum for a game released in 1998 that mods that game and learned all about modding there, I learned about source-code and programming from GameMaker as well.. this was back in 2005-2006.
