Does anyone here still visit these forums besides me? It's a shame to see all the non-activity here, though I understand that Croc is around 10 years old now...

Sorry. I have a major problem: I get addicted to one videogame series/ book/ tv show, and I only work on something in that category. I do accomplish things while I'm "stuck" on something, but I usually only get "stuck" on something if I see something like an ad or I get a new comic... Needless to say, I am very ashamed to say that I have gotten little to nowhere with my animation... Also, I made the stupid mistake of deciding to follow the storyline of a fanfiction that I hadn't even read yet. When I finally finished reading it, I realized that the fanfiction simply can't work with my storyline. So, I decided to simply make the beginning of Crystal Island instead! While I think this will be much better than my planned story, I have to start over completely... In other words, please don't get your hopes up. Sonicroc

Does anyone have any ideas for keeping activity up here on the board?

Well, don't try to encourage posting just for the sake of posting. That's a road that I don't want to go down again. What bothers me is when someone says something but no one ever responds.

Hey guys, I'm not dead yet!
That is all. I'm afraid there's not much I could do to raise activity around here- even if I linked to the forums in my sig on another forum or something, there'd be few people who'd be interested in this place, and the ones who are would most likely be idiots, anyway. Sadly, Croc just isn't the kind of franchise that can sustain a community- actually, it's rare for most game communities to grow this large, if they even exist. We're pretty lucky to be where we are now.

This is indeed true, I'm afraid. I suppose it won't inspire much confidence that I'm not entirely sure what I was thinking in trying to give such a community a chance. >.>; I guess I just wanted to give Croc some recognition online. The Croc franchise is extremely small-fry when compared to the likes of other popular - and almost always (fictional) character-led - series. Take a look at this article from a few months ago, which quotes a list of the best-selling game franchises of all time. It was originally published in a British newspaper at the start of this year. If you don't have the time to read the whole article right now, the list is quoted below. Now, in comparison to all of these big-selling series, the entire Croc series holds, if memory serves, worldwide sales of just a bit over 3 million, although I may be mistaken and it may be closer to 4 million. At any rate, if I'm remembering correctly, the first game sold over 2 million units (possibly over 3 million - this is the part I'm unsure about), and the second either came close to, or actually hit, a million. As far as I know, with the first two games, these numbers cover all of the formats they were released for - PlayStation, Windows, and, in the case of Croc 1, also the Saturn. I'd imagine that the sales of the two Game Boy Colour titles and the recent mobile phone games (none of which I have figures for, I'm afraid) probably add a little bit to the total as well, but I'm guessing that it's not as much as the original two games sold through (although there's every chance I could be wrong - like I said, I don't have the numbers for these games). Be it just over 3 million or just over 4 million, the point still stands: Those numbers are small-fry compared to the numerous franchises listed above, and like it or not, they do directly affect the numbers of people who played and remember the games in question. This applies even after factoring in used game sales, people giving their older games to younger relatives, people borrowing games from friends, and other such things, because there are still only that many copies in circulation and thus it is harder for those copies to reach as many people are the bigger titles out there reach. When you have series with much higher sales figures, the chances are that you're going to have many multi-millions of people who regard their chosen franchises with fondness, even after factoring in the numbers of people who don't enjoy them for whatever reason. When a series nowadays has sales in the lower single-millions, there are still always going to be less people interested in a place like this, even if the majority of people who played it loved it, because there are simply less people who played the games to begin with. After all, even communities relating to the big franchises only tend to have a few thousand members on average, despite multi-million sales figures for the games in question. Or, to put it more succinctly: Croc is pretty obscure nowadays, despite all the marketing pushes back in the day, and as a direct result of the number of copies out there for people to obtain and play (even if you include illicit copies, I'd imagine it's still nowhere near close to the circulation numbers held by bigger titles), there are almost certainly less people around who will remember him, than would remember other franchises. ;P Not that the aforementioned obscurity is a bad thing, as such, but it's the reason why this place is always going to be pretty sleepy and quiet, for however long it lasts.

I find this place very nice despite its sleepyness and I hope that it will last for a long time. However, I can't help being afraid of it suddenly disappearing (last news article on the frontpage is more than 2 years old and Croc is 10) and so I would like to mirror the main site if it's not too big. Forte, could you please PM me (or post here) the size/details of the site (if it's okay that i mirror it). - Per

I'm afraid that I'd rather not get into any mirroring deals if that's alright with you.
Sorry.

Mirroring deals? There is no "deal". It's not like I'm selling webhosting or something :-D But I respect your decision, it's completely up to you.

Hey...I'm still here. Sorry to say I don't really check the site as often as I should, but I suppose that's because I lost interest in Croc for awhile, and was interested in other video games/books/comics for some time. I have gotten interested in it again, though, and that's why I'm here now. I think I'll always like Croc, I just don't think it will always be my "main interest" so to speak.

I like this forum more than the others, actually. I like having a small community of friends, rather than a lot of people who are very lazy typists.
