I guess this topic is only really relevant if you're a Christian or Jew. Anyway, within the last two to three years, I came across the third commandment, which states, "You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not acquit anyone who misuses his name." I felt quite stupid, because although I didn't recall ever using phrases like "Oh my God" or "Jesus Christ!" myself, I didn't pay it any mind. After that, I started to noticed just how much it was being used! I can't go to a mall, school, or almost anywhere else without hearing at least three "God"s where it isn't relevant in the least bit. I'm under the impression that most people just aren't aware of what they're even saying, because it's been done over and over and over. I've also been hearing things like "Jeez", "Oh my Gosh", etc. This may be a step away from the whole thing, but I still can't help feeling that it means the same thing. I don't mind "sheesh", though, because it doesn't look or sound anything like "Jesus." I'd just like everyone to be aware of this. Sonicroc

Yeah, it does seem like people say that more often than they should. Although I do believe in God, I don't think that He will punish us extremely for saying that. I think it's mostly out of respect more than anything else, if that makes sense. But, I do think that you have a point...we shouldn't really say that so much, I suppose.

Yay! After six months, someone finally replied to this! I think that God will be forgiving, as long as we ask him to, and we try to stop doing it. I hope that the next generation isn't like this, in that God's name is used at least one million times per day. Part of the problem is that "Oh my gosh" is also used too much. It sounds almost the same, and everyone knows what it means, and those who say that tend to switch to "God" after awhile. I just wish people would just keep their mouths shut sometimes... PS: Cool, Firefox spell checks automatically!

Yeah, but it is hard to stop doing, especially when it's so common in everyday use. Not only that, but the ever popular "OMG" is used a ton online. Hmmm...we need a new exclamation to say instead of that. Ideas?

My idea would be not to get into any religious discussions or debates here. Sorry guys, but this is mentioned in the rules. I was willing to let it slide before as nobody had replied. I did not feel the post was appropriate, but I saw no sense in locking it, removing it, or whatever, at that point, as I was concerned that doing so could potentially come off as perhaps a tad harsh or something, even though I would most certainly not have meant it in such a way. However, now it is coming dangerously close to possibly pushing the beliefs of some onto others who do not wish it to be pushed upon them, or potentially being preachy (and this is one of the reasons for rule number one). Please bear in mind that this is a video game-related board, and not a serious debating forum. I don't mind in the slightest if you guys want to take it to PMs and discuss it that way, though - that's absolutely fine by me. Thank-ye.

Well, I hope that I didn't come off as preachy in any of my replies...I didn't mean to sound that way. Sorry. ^^; I also wasn't meaning to try to push beliefs on anyone, since I don't believe in doing that...sorry if it looked that way. ^^; (Or are you referring to SonicCroc on some of these things?)

It's no problem, don't worry about it (either of you ;P).
I wasn't referring to anyone in particular - I was just making a generalised reminder of the rules and a "warning" (for want of a better description) about why that first rule is there. ;P

Please accept my apologies, Forte Wily. I only read the rules when I first came to this forum, and at that time, I don't think I was even a Christian! I would guess that I just ignored it, as I didn't think that I would be affected by it. Sorry. Thanks for giving us the option of PMing each other about this, though.

Like I said, don't worry about it. It's fine - no harm done. Also, no sweat, with regard to the PM'ing thing. I'd say it's less an "option" to PM, and more simply common sense, though (after all, I've got no problem with it being talked about by you guys - just concerns about it possibly becoming a debate or a problem out on the board, and such). Either way, though, no problem. Now that that's all cleared up, I'm going to lock this thread. As far as I'm aware, there's not a lot of need for it to remain open, now.
