Why is a parkway called a parkway if you actually don't run around in grass and swing on swings?

Feel free to post here during a time when nothing new happens on the forum, when no one posts for weeks on end. Like now.

I think "weeks on end" requires multiple weeks to have passed. For some reason, I'm now thinking of the Monty Python "parrot sketch".

LOL, some of the topics that are, according to the icons, "on fire," were last discussed in January!

I think "weeks on end" requires multiple weeks to have passed. Well, it's happened before. Besides, must my frivolous exaggerations be pointed out??

Croc: Hero of the Gobbos will never die! Just hibernating, that's all.

So yeah, these silences are pretty much inevitable. All it takes it a small decrease in interest, then people stop posting, then when there is no posting going on, there is nothing to reply to, so a silence is pretty much a spiraling pit of woe and doom that is hard to reverse.

I thought about posting a minor ramble relating to a recent hardware acquisition of mine, but I didn't think you guys'd be interested.

I thought about posting a minor ramble relating to a recent hardware acquisition of mine, but I didn't think you guys'd be interested. Sure, let's hear it!! I'm actually kinda amazed by how many people so quickly responded to my one reply- it just goes to show that everyone checks up on the forum, but no one posts! And rexhunter, don't blame us, I haven't seen much of YOUR posts lately!

Because the majority of my posts are in the hacking topic I made Andre and I check the forum every day, but there's not much to actually talk about.

It's better than nothing, isn't it? ;D Ok, fine. It's not particularly interesting, mind you. It was just a ramble about a (*very* well-priced) HP Mini-Note I got hold of. It was the Linux version, since I don't believe in paying a large amount of extra money for bundled software I don't want and never asked for (ever try getting your money back on that? ). Anyhow, the pre-installed distro was SUSE 10. I don't use SUSE normally (and I've been told that the way it handles updates is a little odd, the details of which makes it unappealing to me), but I figured I'd at least give it a try, since it was there and already set up. The first problem came when it didn't work with all of the hardware it was installed on, such as the wireless card, even though it should have. What irritated me the most, though, was how the OS itself was incredibly unhelpful in resolving the issue - it seemed like it was trying to appear clever by being needlessly verbose and excessively over-technical wherever it didn't need to be, whilst not actually providing any genuinely useful information. Partly due to this, and partly due to its rather clumsy menu design (which I just couldn't find how to change), it generally got in the way of me trying to use the machine as I wanted. All of those things together basically reminded me of Windows, and why I don't use it. Since I normally use what I find to be a well-polished distro (specifically, Kubuntu, with KDE3 - but I also use the GNOME-by-default regular Ubuntu, too), it felt kind of like being pelted with ice-water. In the end, I went ahead with my original plan and installed Xubuntu on the thing, and then gave it a name*. It runs great now. ;D *(That gives me an idea for a new topic, which will probably have a short life, but could be interesting nonetheless. )
