Is the computer itself dead, or was it a hard drive failure? If the hard drive didn't fail, it's possible to get various adapters for connecting whatever type of drive is installed in it to a USB port on another machine in order to retrieve your files. I've done this before, and it's very easy - even finding the adapter isn't difficult as long as you know what you're after (and many such adapters now cover most of the common internal hard drive types in one unit, anyway). You just solved my problem ;D Silly me didn't think of that, thanks!

Should have said dead and gone. It stopped working a few years ago and I tossed it. Starting to regret that now.
